Individuals are at high risk for a variety of impairments and functional limitations post stroke. Commonly, individuals experience significant deficits that have a profound impact on movement. Prioritizing patient needs to improve functional task performance is challenging in the current healthcare environment, and there is limited direction on how to proceed.
This course will help bridge the gap of providing evidence-based care while focusing on the common priority needs of patients following a stroke. The focus will be on providing efficient and realistic clinical applications to achieve the greatest impact on the use of the upper extremity. In addition, improving transfers and balance for a variety of patient levels will result in increased safety during movement.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Compensation Versus Recovery
This chapter will discuss the definitions of compensation and recovery, including the importance of identifying which technique you are prioritizing and when it is optimal to combine techniques.
2. Optimizing Transfers to Improve Function
This chapter will discuss strategies for safe transfers for patients at all levels of functional independence.
3. Balance Considerations
This chapter will discuss considerations for balance at all levels and provide functional treatment solutions to maximize challenge.
