She graduated summa cum laude from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan with an undergraduate degree integrating Biomedical Science and Developmental Psychology. Currently, she is a fulltime faculty member with the University of Alberta as an associate professor of occupational therapy where she teaches pediatric and mental health courses as well as offers an elective in maternal mental health. Dr. Buchner’s research interests include maternal and family-related mental health, the occupational basis of women’s health, developmental trauma/pediatric mental health, and occupation-based practice.

Dr. Buchner is licensed to practice occupational therapy in the state of Michigan and registered as an occupational therapist in Alberta, Canada.
