Cynthia M. Fox
PhD, CCC-SLP
Cynthia Fox, PhD, CCC-SLP, received her doctorate degree in speech and hearing sciences from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Her training focused in the areas of neuroscience and motor control. She is an expert on rehabilitation, neuroplasticity, and the role of exercise in the improvement of function consequent to neural injury and disease. She has more than 25 years of experience working in collaboration with expert colleagues conducting efficacy research on Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD®) in people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), as well as studying the underlying mechanisms of speech disorders in PD. Dr. Fox is a world leader in administration of LSVT LOUD speech treatment. She was the first to apply LSVT LOUD to disorders other than PD (e.g., multiple sclerosis) and pioneered the application to pediatric populations, including children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. Dr. Fox worked closely on the development of a physical and occupational therapy program, LSVT BIG®, that was modeled after the LSVT LOUD speech treatment protocol. Dr. Fox has numerous publications in these areas of research and has presented extensively nationally and internationally.
In 2003, Dr. Fox cofounded the company LSVT Global, Inc., to directly address the gap in translation of NIH-funded clinical treatment research (i.e., LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG) to public health practice. LSVT Global achieves this goal through an extensive clinician training curriculum with in-person, virtual live, and online courses; LSVT Companion speech software; and exercise tools for patient populations. Dr. Fox is a faculty member for both LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG training and certification courses. Currently there are more than 50,000 speech, physical, and occupational therapists in 78 countries trained to deliver the LSVT protocols. Dr. Fox is a chief executive officer of LSVT Global, Inc.
